How the four stones differ

Granite
Natural stone, so every slab is different. Seal it to help it resist stains.

Marble
The softest of the four. Lemon juice, vinegar and wine can etch its polish.

Quartz
Engineered stone with even color and pattern. It needs no sealing.

Quartzite
Natural stone with flowing veins, harder than marble. Seal it like granite.

Countertop questions
How do quartz and natural stone differ?
Granite, marble and quartzite are natural stone, so each slab has its own pattern. Quartz is engineered stone with more consistent color and pattern, and it needs little upkeep.
Which countertops need sealing?
Granite, marble and quartzite usually need sealing to help resist stains. Ask how often for the slab you choose. Quartz is non-porous and needs no sealing.
Can I put a hot pan on the countertop?
Use a trivet. A sudden hot spot can mark or crack natural stone, and high heat can scorch the resin in quartz.
